Sound Therapy Workshop Featuring Tuned Sound Therapy
Who We Are
Soldiers of Creation is a gender inclusive social enterprise that focuses on providing a safe space for survivors and supporters of sexual assault to connect, reclaim their voice and empower each other. We aim to introduce survivors and allies dealing with trauma caused by sexual assault to alternative methods of healing.
Workshop Details
Soldiers of Creation partnered up with Dr. Jackie Obermeyer, owner of Tuned Sound Therapy, for a Sound Therapy Workshop. Attendees were able to choose between two dates for the workshop: Saturday June 27th at 11:30 am, or Sunday June 28th at 7:30 pm. The workshops were hosted via Zoom, lasted for approximately 2.5-3h, and were hosted by SOC team members Cynthia Yeh (Event Ops Coordinator) and Amy Finkelstein (Founder). Mickey and Vivian joined as the workshop’s active listeners for Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The goal of this workshop was for the SOC community to learn about the healing properties of sound, and how specific frequencies can affect and transform our minds and our bodies.
Workshop Summary
The workshop started off with introductions from Cynthia, Mickey (Sat.) and Vivian (Sun.). After going over a few housekeeping items, Jackie led the group in a few engaging activities (i.e. setting intentions for the workshop, identifying how we react to certain familiar sounds) and then proceeded to teach us about how our brains react to sound, the scientific explanation of chakras (“large electromagnetic fields associated with big bundles of nerves”, Jackie Obermeyer, 2020), and how we can use sound to remove energetic blockages. Jackie then led us through an activity to help us identify our blockages, and used her tuning forks - a specific frequency paired with each chakra - to help us reprogram our thoughts, and therefore helping to relieve the identified blockages. She finished off this portion of the workshop with a multi-layered sound bath, which left everybody in awe and feeling great.
Following Jackie’s sound therapy portion and quick 5-minute break, Jackie led the attendees in an opening activity to prepare for the optional conversation portion. The following questions were discussed during the conversation: a) How did you feel during the workshop, b) If you feel comfortable, share a sexual assault, mental health, or anxiety story that you have experience, and c) How do you show allyship to yourself and others. Mickey and Vivian wrapped up the workshop with grounding closing activities to bring us back into the present moment.

Digital Informational Care Kit
Together with Jackie, Mickey and Vivian, we put together a digital informational care kit for the workshop attendees. Each attendee received a personalized message from Cynthia or Amy; Jackie shared a summary of what she taught during the workshop; and Mickey and Vivian shared some self-care tools and practices. We also provided everyone with resources from our directory that are currently offering free resources during the pandemic: The Mental Wealth and Wellness Podcast (Jenna Knapp), Lotus Strength and Wellness (Nicole), with YATUEI and Earth Oil providing attendees with generous discounts off their products.
Here is a sneak peek of what the care kit looks like:
